How did it start?

About 70 years ago clergy started going into
work places as Chaplains, as part of the work of
the Industrial Mission.

Many people spend the majority of their active
life in the workplace and it is there that they use
key skills to develop important relationships, face
challenges and real opportunities within their
work situation.
Workplace Chaplaincies

Chaplains can be from any denomination, lay or
ordained and will work in places like the National
Farmers Union Offices.

Chaplains spend about one session per fortnight
in the company or factory, but how this works out
in practice depends upon the chaplain and the
local management.

Mission in the World of Work has
vacancies for associate chaplains
working with the emergency services,
Police, Fire and Ambulance.

It is good for the Church to have its
representatives in the work place
giving encouragement,
support, and comfort when needed.
